FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police were looking for the source of gunshots fired on one of their own early Sunday.

An officer who had pulled over a vehicle along Pamalee Drive near Bragg Boulevard was writing the driver a ticket when shots rang out. One bullet hit the officer's car. No one was hurt.

The dashboard camera in the patrol vehicle caught the shooting, Police Chief Harold Medlock said, and that video will be used to track down the shooter.

“The citizens of our great community will not stand by while someone with ill will against law enforcement seeks to induce harm against the men and women who are sworn to protect this great community,” Medlock said in a statement. “The officer’s mobile dash mounted video recorder captured the shooting and will assist detectives during the course of the investigation in bringing these individuals to justice for their cowardly act.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 911 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477. Crime Stoppers information can also be submitted online or via text 274637 (in the text box type “4Tip” followed by your message).
