— Minor league baseball officials have some interest in the Bull City.

The Durham City Council received an update Thursday on the status of the Durham Athletic Park. Minor league baseball officials are considering using the old landmark for a training institute for umpires, announcers and groundskeepers.

Officials also want to build a minor league museum near the park.

The Durham Athletic Park was the location for the movie, "Bull Durham."

While Durham is the only city that minor league baseball officials are considering, officials said it could be months before a deal is made.

WRAL: Thanks for publishing this story. Shame you didn't report on this when the last public meeting happened, on May 9. Or the meetings earlier this winter, which have been covered in the N&O and other media outlets.

I mean, WRAL's parent company *owns* the Durham Bulls and the American Tobacco complex, for heaven's sake. One would think that better coverage of one of the two principal cities in the Triangle would not be too much to ask for.

I would attend any umpiring clinics

Excellent idea. I would even be willing to contribute to a private foundation dedicated to the development of a museum and restoration of the park.

I know few "good ol'boys" from that area and they shoot at anything that moves. I live in Sanford and it's becoming a dang war zone. That's alright though, I've got guns and ammo for when it hits my part of town. LOL

idontlikeu - you need to come on down to Apex for a while. we only shoot travelin salesmen and tax collectors - usually a real peaceful place, as long as you don't count exploding chemical dumps or out of control shepherds.

@PhotoJ... I won't deny that using the park for training of the minor league is a positive thing. The truth is my first post could apply to just about any area in NC today.

Maybe all the "Durham-haters" should get a FREE ticket to a baseball game out at the DBAP (not the DAP, mind you) but the statdium where the Bulls play NOW. Let them look around at what baseball has done for this area - now on the brink of economic boom - and they might change their tune about the possibilities for the DAP. If you renovate it, they will come. And they will be the ones with the money, manners and motivation!

Maybe if they can teach the umpires to dodge bullets they won't get hit with the ball. LOL
