Legacy Repertory Company has a big week ahead with multiple performances of "The Little Mermaid" at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. The production weaves both ballet and contemporary dance, along with aerialists, to tell the classic story, adapted from the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale.

One of the performances is designed specifically for kids and adults with special needs and their caregivers and families. That show is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Friday. It is designed to be fully inclusive, a local mom tells me, so that families who don't often get to participate in this kind of event can feel comfortable. In other words, meltdowns and noises won't come as surprises during this performance.

"All kinds of people will be there and all kinds of special needs are accommodated," she tells me.

To register for the free performance for the special needs community, go to Legacy's website where there is more information.
Other performances are scheduled at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., Saturday. Advance tickets for those shows are between $14 and $20. They are on sale now!
