Daily Show takes swipe at HB2

The Daily Show on Comedy Central rented a food truck and then declined to serve people "by telling them they're gay." The bit was meant to make a point about House Bill 2.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Neither side of the debate over House Bill 2 has thought the bill is a laughing matter, but that didn't stop Comedy Central's The Daily Show from making fun.

Daily Show correspondents Roy Wood Jr. and Jordan Klepper created a fake barbecue company and then set out to deny people service "by telling them they're gay." Many of the people featured in the five-minute bit were not, in fact, gay.

Among other things, House Bill 2 sets a statewide nondiscrimination policy but excludes LGBT people from protections. It also prohibits local governments from extending protections beyond the state definition.
