Daily elk habit brings spectators close to nature

— At dawn and at dusk during this time of year within the Cataloochee Valley inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, elk appear from the woods in a remote valley. They graze in open fields just a few feet from spectators and photographers who line a nearby road to watch and take pictures.

    Drove from Cherokee to Gatlinburg a while back, first, traffic was backed up for hours due to a bear up a tree...then saw elk and turkey...seeing the wildlife was nice... but don't go during peak tourist times.
