Cyclist struck, killed in Fayetteville

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday evening near Raeford Road in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday evening near Raeford Road in Fayetteville.

According to Fayetteville police, 50-year-old Giles Michael Dechert was struck by a 2002 Honda Accord driven by 26-year-old Christopher William Hubbard as it was attempting to make a left turn shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday.

Dechert was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where they were he later died from his injuries.

Hubbard was cited for driving with a revoked license. 

The accident is still under investigation by the Fayetteville Fire Department Traffic Unit.
