KENLY, N.C. — A bicyclist was airlifted to Duke University Medical Center after being struck in a hit-and-run accident in Kenly.

The accident happened Friday night around 9 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 301 and Seventh Street in front of the Tobacco Family Life Museum, officials said.

The bicyclist, Andrew Lee, 18, suffered serious injuries and was still in critical condition Sunday morning, officials said. EMS transported Lee to Johnston Memorial Hospital, where the Duke Life Flight helicopter flew him to Duke.

Lee was riding northbound in the southbound lanes on Highway 301 when the vehicle hit him. The car fled the scene, officials said. Authorities did not have a description of the vehicle because there were no witnesses.

Anyone with information should call the Wilson County Highway Patrol at 252-237-5294.
