FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville bank robbery was thwarted Friday morning when the robber got into a fight with a bank customer, police said.

A man tried to rob the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 1440 Walter Reed Road at about 10 a.m. After demanding money, he got into a physical altercation with a customer and dropped his weapon, police said.

The robber, who was cut during the struggle, then fled the bank toward Owen Drive, police said.

He is described as white, between 18 and 22 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slender build.

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department said they are investigating the possibility that he might have been involved in other recent bank robberies in the area.

Anyone with information about Friday's attempted robbery is asked to call police at 910-433-1856 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
