RALEIGH, N.C.The Cupcake Shoppe Bakery in Raleigh is celebrating a decade in business in downtown Raleigh this week by offering specials, free mini-cupcakes and T-shirt giveaways.
The shop is the vision of owner and Raleigh native Sara Fitzpatrick, who left a corporate sales job at Johnson and Johnson to pursue her love of baking.

"I just felt like something was missing for me creatively," Fitzpatrick said. ""I've always loved dessert and cake and celebrations."

The shop's original menu featured 12 standard flavors with one rotating flavor of the week. As time went by, Fitzpatrick noticed that people didn't always want a cupcake with their morning coffee, so the menu expanded to include other baked goods including croissants, cinnamon buns and individual pies. The current menu also includes a summer-time treat - homemade ice cream sandwiches.

The shop, which is located at 104 Glenwood Ave., also offers custom cakes and wedding cakes.

The Cupcake Shoppe

The shop bakes between 150 and 200 cupcakes to be sold in the display case during the week. That number goes up to 400 on weekends. Bakers get started as early as 4 a.m. to start making treats from scratch each day.

To celebrate its 10 year birthday, The Cupcake Shoppe will have several fun promotions on Thursday, including T-shirt giveaways and free mini-cupcakes for customers. There is also a four cupcakes for $10 deal that will continue through the weekend.
