— A 16-year-old died late Tuesday when a Chevrolet work van hit his dirt bike on U.S. Highway 301 near Hope Mills, authorities said.

Dion McNair was riding along U.S. 301 at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday and tried to cross the highway near Snow Hill Road when he was struck, according to the State Highway Patrol.

McNair died several hours later at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The driver of the van, Aimee Smith, was charged with driving with a revoked license, but troopers said she wouldn't be charged in McNair's death.

How do you drive without a license, kill someone, and not get charged with causing that death? Had she not broken the law in the beginning, this kid would still be breathing. She chose to do something that caused a death. That in itself screams vehicular manslaughter. At the least, misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Wow, there are a lot of folks in NC driving without valid licenses. Scary.

Nothing makes my blood boil more that people who drive with suspended or revoked licenses, just flaunt the law and drive whether you can legally do so or not, shame on her and everyone else who does it!
