— An on-duty Cumberland County sheriff's deputy and a Fayetteville woman both claim to have had green lights before a wreck Tuesday evening, police said.

A cruiser driven by Deputy Chance Williams turned left from Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway onto Bragg Boulevard around 8:45 p.m. as a 1992 Chevrolet SUV driven by Susie Epps, 53, was going northwest through the intersection. The two vehicles collided.

Williams and Epps were treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries. Williams suffered back pain and is recovering at home, sheriff's office spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said.

No charges have been filed as police continue to investigate the wreck.

We'll have to wait on the investigation to be complete since both claim to have a green light. I had a wreck similar to this. Once I saw I was going to hit the guy, I looked up to see if I had the green light or not, It was green. The guy in the van ran a late yellow. His buddy behind him knew he had ran a red light, but lied and said he had the green. The guys were all public workers racing to get back to the shop to go home. One good thing about this accident, was I keep the guy from running over a 8 year old by hitting him. The kid and his grand mother was starting across the street. She told me later, that if wasn't for the accident, the van would of ran over her grandson. The kid told the police that he looked and had the green light to walk. They dismissed the ticket, but my insurance still paid.

That's a bad intersection, even with traffic lights. You have Sparky's Cabaret just across the intersection there to tantalize ya, and of course a bunch of folks fidgeting away waiting for that light to turn green so they can cut you off turning into your lane as you turn onto Bragg. All that and it's on a slight hill that blocks your view from certain angles. Surprised it doesn't happen a lot more often. Oh wait, it DOES. Just not with police usually involved.

Probably the crash investigator drew the picture of them going in the wrong direction too

Will WRAL either correct the map or else the location of the wreck. The map is showing more then a country mile from Martin King Bulvd
