Cumberland County sheriff to seek sixth term
Cumberland County Sheriff Earl "Moose" Butler announced on Friday that he will seek a sixth term.

Butler, 76, has been the sheriff since 1994. He oversees 720 employees, including more than 300 sworn deputies, and he handles a budget of more than $45 million.
Since he was first elected, Butler has helped the county build a new jail. He said Friday that one challenge he'd like to address if re-elected is the growing number of veterans being house in the Cumberland County Detention Center.
"The jails are housing people today that should be in treatment centers. Of course, these young people coming back from military assignments over in Afghanistan, Iraq, a lot of them have problems," Butler said at a news conference to announce his intention to run for re-election.
"The jail is not a place for them. If they have the problems that we can help with, (we can) get them treatment or get them out where they can go to treatment."
Butler said Friday he wouldn't seek a seventh term.
