Cumberland County OKs limiting number of dogs per household
The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a limit on the number of dogs allowed on small lots and multi-family properties Monday.
Posted — UpdatedEffective July 1, no more than three adult dogs will be allowed on lots less than a half-acre and no more than two adult dogs will be allowed in areas zoned for multi-family residential housing.
A new pet licensing system goes into effect Jan. 1, 2013.
The ordinance stemmed in part from county animal control staff concerns about its volume of calls.
People who already have more than the allowed number of pets will be allowed to keep them.
The City of Fayetteville is considering a similar ordinance.
