FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies charged a Newton Grove man Sunday with robbing a convenience store and raping an employee.

Ronald Wayne Locklear, Jr. of 115 Shady Lane was arrested at about 8 a.m.

Investigators say Locklear held-up the Short Stop at Dunn and Baywood roads by demanding the employee empty the cash register drawer. He then raped the employee and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a gold colored Pontiac Grand Am, investigators say.

Locklear, 26, robbed a second convenience store on Grove Street, investigators say, before he was arrested after crashing his car along School Street.

Deputies charged Locklear with second degree rape, second degree forcible sexual offense, first degree kidnapping and common law robbery.

He was being held Sunday evening in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond.
