FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County authorities on Friday were investigating a case of dog abuse.

A veterinarian at Highland Animal Hospital contacted the sheriff's office Thursday after a German shepherd-mix dog was brought in because it wasn't eating properly.

The vet said X-rays and an MRI revealed the dog had internal injuries from repeated abuse.

The dog underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

No charges have been filed in the case.
