FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Cumberland County Civic Center Commission named a new general manager Wednesday.

Karen Long, who has served as interim CEO/general manager, will stay on in the post permanently.

“We have had an extended opportunity to review and assess her performance and have received favorable feedback from customers and our community,” the commission chairman, Dr. Jack Freeman, said.

Long, 45, has been with the center for more than 13 years. She replaces Paul Beard Jr. who resigned Dec. 31.

The commission suspended Beard; Windy Lawson, the coliseum's marketing and sales director; and Herman Bullard, director of the Cumberland County Fair, in October after saying they had received complaints of wrongdoing from several people.
