Crews to close Durham Freeway Friday night

Posted March 25, 2010

— Crews will shut down N.C. Highway 147 Friday night to work on the R. Kelly Bryant Jr. Pedestrian Bridge over the highway, officials said.

Traffic will be rerouted onto Briggs and Alston avenues from 11 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Saturday to give crews time to begin pouring the concrete decking on the new pedestrian bridge.

The highway will also be closed from 11 p.m. Monday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday so crews can finish pouring concrete.

Durham isn't as bad as people make it out to be. With more people comes more crime that's a given no matter where you live.

    @ DeathRow,
Ha Ha Ha. Nice one. Durham dangerous. We get it. Keep your head in the sand and stay where you're at please. The Sky is Falling!! True, per capita crime is a little higher than Raleigh, but Durham ain't Baghdad, as you'd like to believe. And when we're talking about a delta of 5 or so murders difference between cities in a typical year, is there really a significant difference given the metropolitan population sizes?? I don't think so. Keep feeding those stereotypes.

Death Row has a good point. ...oh yeah, right Jackie Flash, like I bet you really know...actually, I was born and raised in Durham around the 9th Street area. So yeah, I kinda know.

"Traffic will be rerouted onto Briggs and Alston avenues from 11 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Saturday..."

Hope the Durham PD will station multiple patrol cars on those streets. Otherwise, we will be reading about a carjacking/murder the next morning.
