— Authorities evacuated about 15 to 20 homes near downtown Holly Springs Wednesday morning due to a gas leak.

The 2-inch natural gas line ruptured at about 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of Raleigh and Earp streets, town officials said. The leak was stopped at about 10:30 a.m.

Officials said it could be several hours before the road reopens, but residents should be allowed back into their homes by lunchtime.

No other information has been released.

Evacuation of a bunch of homes...because their safety was at stake?...the gas pipe might explode and take everyone out and destroy their homes in the process.

Not something you'd see if we ran on solar or wind power. Can everyone at least acknowledge the safety and environmental advantages of fossil fuel alternatives?
