— Fire ripped through one of Sanford's most popular restaurants early Tuesday, authorities said.

Emergency crews responded to the Fairview Dairy Bar, at 109 Carbonton Road near downtown Sanford, at about 3:40 a.m. after a Sanford police officer saw that the restaurant was on fire.

It wasn't clear what caused the blaze, but no injuries were reported. When crews arrived, the front of the restaurant was engulfed in flames.

Lee County investigators asked for assistance from the State Bureau of Investigation to determine a cause.

The Flame Steakhouse, which is next door to Fairview Dairy Bar, was damaged by smoke from the blaze, officials said.

Known for its ice cream, Fairview Dairy Bar is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Bubboak you obviously have no clue about what you are talking about The Dairy Bar is not known for steaks, but it is a favorite Sanford Restuartant that will be sorely missed, it was family business, that people have put their whole lives into, they are great people. why not keep your negative comments to yourself. They also have very loyal employees that have worked there for years that now have no job, have a little bit of respect.

It sounds suspicious since the restaurant is closed on Monday. Hope they rebuild soon. This place has the best burgers, especially the Pokie Burger named after the original owner. It is a 50+ year Sanford institution. Sad...

That whole side of town is turning into a crime infested area. Sonic is moving to the other side of town - hardees has shut the doors. Maybe they were just joining the ban on crime.

I guess they didn't have a monitored fire alarm if it was only noticed by a LEO who happened to be near. I wonder if the damage could have been reduced if they did have a monitored fire alarm.
