A crash on Interstate 40 between Wade and Harrison avenues in Wake County Thursday evening briefly closed three of four westbound lanes, slowing traffic to a crawl.

Two lanes have since reopened, but police said drivers should expect delays in the area through the evening commute.

Details about the crash were not released.

This stretch of road is like a high speed version of "bumper cars." So much fun.

Wait do you people mean the criminals on their cell phones? I drive fast but don't tail gate, cut people off, or change lanes excessively. The people I see causing grief on 40 are those busy doing something other than driving.

If you want to use our roads to "pick up the kids and go home" without long delays on the road then I suggest you contact your law enforcement agencies and ask them to yank those that behave like "criminals on the run" off our roads BEFORE they cause wrecks.

It's NOT just a matter of clean up, there's lots more that goes on, so just deal or go another route, but most of all QUIT BEING IN SUCH A DARN HURRY!!!!! That's what causes 90% of the wrecks on I40 I'd bet.

During high traffic times I wish they would: 1. Close the necessary lanes. 2. Safely get the people out of the wrecked cars. 3. Use heavy equipment to push the wrecked vehicles as far off to the side of the road as possible. 4. Put up some safety cones or lights on the side to warn people about the wrecked vehicles on the shoulder. 5. Clean up the debris and open up the road. 6. Go back later after rush hour up and pick up the wrecks.

Please stop holding up those that don't drive like criminals on the run. We just want to pick up the kids and go home.
