EASTOVER, N.C. — Five people were taken to the hospital early Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle wreck involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. Route 301 in Cumberland County.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol troopers said a man was driving a 2000-model Jeep with three other passengers inside when he rolled through a stop sign and into the path of a tractor-trailer in the northbound lanes near the Town of Eastover. The driver told troopers he was using a GPS device and didn't see the stop sign.

The driver of the truck and all four people in the Jeep were taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Troopers said the driver of the Jeep, who was not identified, will be charged for a stop sign violation.

A 150-gallon fuel spill closed the road for about three hours, but the road reopened as cleanup progressed.
