Clayton, N.C. — A single-car crash took down several power poles, knocking out power to thousands of Clayton residents for about seven hours Friday night, authorities said.
Kylie Rose Severino, 19, of Clayton, was driving when her Volvo veered off a curve on Glen Laurel Road near the Clayton Dog Park just after 5 p.m. Friday.
Clayton Public Power crews were able to restore power to a large part of the town before 6 p.m., however hundreds of residents who live off of Glen Laurel Road were without power until about midnight, officials said.
Severino was arrested for driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, exceeding posted speed limit and careless and reckless driving. Authorities said her blood alcohol level at the time of the wreck was 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit.
She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and gives a $2,000 secured bond.
No additional information was immediately available.
