APEX, N.C. — Westbound U.S. Highway 64 was closed Friday morning between Laura Duncan Road and the Salem Street exit in Apex after a crane became stuck under a railroad overpass, police said.

A tractor-trailer was carrying the crane in sections, and the load was apparently too tall to pass under the bridge. One section was knocked from atop the trailer at about 11 a.m. and was lodged under the bridge, blocking both lanes.

No injuries were reported.

All westbound traffic was forced to exit U.S. 64 at Laura Duncan Road for more than two hours before authorities were able to reopen one westbound lane.
