Crane crushes billboard in Durham

— A crane being used in the removal of a billboard Thursday in Durham became unstable and toppled over, crushing the sign along U.S. Highway 70.

There were no injuries and traffic was not affected in the mishap, which happened near Barnes Street, authorities said.

The crane struck a power pole, but there were no significant outages.

    Most likely NOT. In the construction world, we call that "unforeseen conditions below grade". Ya just never know what lurks below..

    LOL, cranes don't "become unstable". This crane was unstable when the operator set it up incorrectly.

    Gravity is making itself known in several news reports today. The bridge collapse at Wake Tech, window washer equipment on the World Trade Center, the girl hurt at the state fair and now this? My prayers are going out to all those affected.
