The kids and I are in full Christmas craft mode at our house and having a blast! Our latest project, a lighted Christmas tree crafted from paper, is easy to make and will get your windows spruced up for the holidays. I am still amazed at how simple and pretty these are!

The inspiration for our lighted Christmas trees came from 2 Big, 2 Little. To do this project, you will need scissors, green construction paper or card stock, a hole puncher, tissue paper in various colors, and a glue stick. You can read the full instructions here.

My children are 3- and 4-years-old, so to keep the project uncomplicated I cut the Christmas tree pattern out and punched the holes for them. They really enjoyed using a glue stick to add all the tissue paper lights to the tree. To help them understand what the end result would be, I would periodically hold up their incomplete work to the light so they could see what it looked like. They were excited to see their finished trees hanging on our windows. The light filtering through the tissue paper-covered holes really makes it look like the tree has Christmas lights!!

This is a great project for preschoolers to do because it provides a lot of fine motor practice! Older kids will enjoy this one, too, and can probably do the project from start to finish independently.

Merry Christmas!
