— A jewelry store at Crabtree Valley Mall was robbed Monday afternoon after three men with hammers smashed jewelry cases and ran off with merchandise.

Raleigh police responded to Sidney Thomas Jewelers at 3:16 p.m.

A woman named Sandra, who did not want to use her last name, heard the glass display cases being smashed. She initially thought they were gunshots.

Moments later, one of the suspects passed Sandra.

She grabbed his arm to stop him.

"I couldn't hold on to him...(he) threw me to the ground," she said.

Her knee was injured by the fall.

The suspects left a short trail of stolen watches on their way out.

Investigators said they do not have a good description of the suspects.

Only one other person tried to stop the men, she said.

"I think people do not want to get involved," she said. "That is what is wrong with the world today. People need to step up."

I don't think that "stepping up" to possibly be shot for your jewelry, watches and other shiny objects would be a very smart move by anyone not in law enforcement. I'm sure that law enforcement would advise the same.

... I agree with you as far as a bystander stepping in, BUT my point was that because of the "rules" imposed on the store owner by Crabtree Valley Mall, he didn't have the option of defending himself if he wanted to even if he had a CCP...Furthermore, I also feel that if he does have a CCP he should be able to sue Crabtree for assuming responsibility for his safety for not allowing him to defend himself....

The sheer number of concealed carry types who apparently don't get this shows me that the program is a failure and does more harm than good to society. time to abandon it.

Show some real evidence to back your statement up. Just because you rely on someone else to come to your defense when a crime happens don't expect me to not step up and defend myself when the time arises..

"Investigators said they do not have a good description of the suspects."

Add to that, another media outlet is reporting that they wore hoodies (pulled up), gloves, and what seemed to be masks.

So how is the public supposed to help when WRAL consistently refuses to give a description suspects involved?

  • 678devilish Dec 16, 2014

These are some brazen and I don't care people. Just glad no one was seriously hurt. But I do hope they catch these theives asap.

What Sandra did was very stupid! She put herself in danger by grabbing the guy! She could have been killed! The ONLY thing she should have done was look at them to get a good description for the police!
