RALEIGH, N.C. — Another great weekend in the Triangle is ahead! Here are our picks for what to do:
Couture for a Cause – This annual fashion show fundraiser benefits Activate Good! Local designers are paired with Activate Good’s nonprofit partners to create looks that embody the missions of those organizations. The show is Saturday from 7-11 p.m. at Marbles Kids Museum. Tickets are $30 before Friday and $35 cash at the door.
Santa Paws 5K – This annual holiday-themed event allows dogs and humans to race together and raise money for homeless pets. The race is Sunday at the Dorthea Dix Hospital Campus in Raleigh. The race starts at 8 a.m. Online registration is $35. That price goes up to $40 if you wait until Saturday or register on-site on Sunday. Proceeds go to the SPCA of Wake County.

BBQ and Beer

When Pigs Fly – An All American BBQ Festival and 5K – There is a little something for everyone at this event on Saturday at Festival Park in Fayetteville. There will be a 5K, barbecue contest, costume contest (rock your best bacon or pig costumes) and live music. The BBQ festival is free to enter but you can purchase a Beer Lovers All Access ticket separately, which gets you a souvenir beer glass to sample pours from area brewers.
Pilsen Fest – On Saturday, Raleigh Times will be celebrating its victory as Draft’s Magazine’s “Keeper of the Craft.” The award honors the best bar and bartender in the country. From noon to 9 p.m., stop by to sample a specially brewed limited-release anniversary batch of unfiltered and unpreserved Pilsner in a 170-liter oak cask sent only to the Raleigh bar from the Czech Republic. Renowned Czech Brewmaster Vaclav Berka will be on hand to help pour and serve this rare, exclusive beer. Ten dollars will get you a ½ liter pour and souvenir glass mug. All proceeds from the pours go to SAFEchild, a child abuse prevention agency helping families in Wake County.

Music

QDR Country for Kids – In its fifth year, this concert features performances from four country stars. This year’s lineup is Jason Michael Carroll, The Cadillac Three, Kacey Musgraves and Montgomery Gentry. The show is Saturday at 7 p.m. at the DPAC. Proceeds benefit the NC Children’s Hospital.
Bill Leslie – WRAL’s own Bill Leslie will be performing at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center in Cary on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Comics

Bill Bellamy – The former host of MTV Jams will be bringing his stand-up act to Goodnights Comedy Club in Raleigh. Tickets start at $25.
NC Comicon – Comic book and fantasy enthusiasts get ready for North Carolina’s Comicon held this weekend at the Durham Convention Center. This year’s special guests include John Barrowman, who has appeared on the shows “Torchwood” and “Arrow” and the film “Zero Dark Thirty.” Adult two-day passes are $40 each and one day passes are $25.
