Court: Councilman Should Get New Hearing on Disputed Seat
A Rocky Mount councilman should get a new hearing in a residency dispute that put his seat in jeopardy two years ago.

The Edgecombe County Board of Elections ruled in 2006 that Councilman Andre Knight couldn't legally represent his ward because he didn't live within its boundaries.
Knight appealed the decision and overwhelmingly won re-election last fall.
The appeals court agreed with Knight's position that the former chairwoman of the county elections board made biased statements in the case and then refused to step aside. The judges also ruled that the board violated state open meetings law by holding hearings on the case behind closed doors.
The court sent the case back to the elections board for a new hearing.
