Counterfeit bills being used in Clayton

— Clayton Police have responded to four reports of counterfeit currency used in local restaurants in the past week, according to a press release. All of the bills have been a $100 note with the same serial number (HF 96620737 A).

The U.S. Secret Service is working together with Clayton Police detectives in this investigation.

Businesses and individuals are urged to carefully examine money and compare suspect notes with a genuine note of the same denomination.

Anyone with information about this crime can call the Clayton Police Department at 919-553-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 919-359-8479 to anonymously leave a tip. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest.

    You can also get a $2 from your local bank. They are not very popular but they do still make them.

    You can get 2 dollar bills at the bank. They are legal tender just like all the rest of the monopoly money.

    I doubt they are counterfeit bills. The bills are most like some of that "Obama money".

    jcthai- I LOVE $2 bills!! I get them all the time just to mess with people. I got 4, uncut $2 bills, framed at a yard sale for $1 one time- got to love people who don't pay attention.

    Also read a story about a guy who was refused service at a fast food place because he used a $2, and we all know "they ain't no such thing as a $2 bill". LOL!

    Everyone is printing money these days. Its whats hip. Counterfeit money will be as valuable as "real" money soon.

    Heck, in Tennessee they arrested a guy for using a REAL $50!!
