On Halloween, it's likely your kids will be on repeat as they constantly ask if it's time to go trick-or-treating yet. So why not plan an activity to take their mind off all that candy getting ...

The Scrap Exchange will be hosting the Great Create Race from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 31. The day includes all day costume making for just $5. There also will be a free kids race (bring your scooter and costume!) at 1:30 p.m.; a costume parade led by the Bulltown Strutters at 2:15 p.m.; and a DJ and the Bull City Street Food truck.

The big event is a race of wheeled, human-powered vehicles (think shopping cart, wheelbarrow or bikes). Teams of four are encouraged to create their own vehicles to compete. Team registration is $100, but more fundraising is encouraged. The team that raises the most money wins a prize.

The event will help the Scrap Exchange continue to make improvements to its new home at Lakewood Shopping Center in Durham.
A Facebook event page has more information and registration details.
