Cool temperatures rush into Triangle behind front

Overnight lows were mild ahead of the front, but temperatures dipped throughout the morning commute. 

Despite the quick cooling, Thursday's weather will be beautiful, as gradual clearing will allow sunshine to be the dominant weather feature during the afternoon. Highs will top out in the mid-60s, some 10 to 15 degrees colder than Wednesday. 

"We're really going to feel that cold air rushing in this morning," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "We'll have a northerly breeze, and this front moving through is going to set up several days of cooler temperatures."

By early Friday, those cooler temperatures could drop into the low 40s.

High temperatures will stay in the upper 60s to low 70s for much of the weekend, and rain showers are possible late Saturday and throughout the day on Sunday. 

The Triangle won't see upper 70s – normal temperatures for late April – until the middle of next week, Gardner said.
