Here's an opportunity to cool off this week ...

Hurricanes Summerfest, the second annual mid-summer Hurricanes hockey celebration, is Wednesday through Saturday at the PNC Arena in Raleigh. During the week, fans can watch some of the Hurricanes' 2014 draft class, other prospects and young hockey players practice on the ice.

They include the team's Prospects Development Camp, which includes most or all of the team's 2014 draft class, some of the team's previously-drafted players and other camp invitees. The camp's on-ice sessions will be open to the public starting Wednesday.

Also on the ice this week is the Canes Elite Players Camp, which happens in conjunction with the Prospects Development Camp and is open to U-18, U-16 and U-14 AAA and AA players.

According to the Hurricanes' website, most of the camp's evening on-ice sessions will be open to the public at the PNC Arena. Parking and admission are free.

The week wrap ups with the Hurricanes Summerfest Celebration at 10 a.m., Saturday, at the arena. The event features the final practice and skills session of Prospects Development Camp; an autograph session; more than 20 inflatables, games and experiences; giveaways; appearances by Stormy and the Storm Squad; and more. Parking and admission is free on Saturday as well. Most of the event will be held inside the PNC Arena.

During the week, the Hurricanes will collect school supplies to benefit Wake County Human Services and PLM Families Together. Fans can drop off pencils, crayons, paper and other supplies at the VIP entrance of the arena from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., all week.

Check the Hurricanes' website for the full schedule of the public practices, needed school supplies and Saturday's Summerfest celebration.
