Cool, dry weekend follows humid Thursday
Rain stays in the forecast through Friday afternoon as a cold front moves in, but when that clears out, the weekend will be sunny with significantly lower temperatures.
Posted — UpdatedWRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said that even though Thursday was hot, temperatures didn't climb as high as initially expected in the Triangle.
A line of thunderstorms that brought severe weather to Maryland and Virginia during the afternoon entered central North Carolina around 10 p.m., which prompted multiple severe weather warnings.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Durham, Granville, Orange, Person and Vance counties for Friday until 12:45 p.m.

A high temperature of 80 degrees is forecast for Saturday and Sunday and lows will be in the 50s both days.
“Try to get out and enjoy this if you can,” WRAL meteorologist Johnson said.
The cooler weather will linger through Monday and Maze said that although temperatures will climb back into the 90s for the first day of summer on Tuesday, he doesn't expect to see prolonged, intense heat common for this time of year.
"There's no big heat, I don't think, for the rest of the month and maybe into the beginning of July," Maze said.
