FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Outbound Bragg Boulevard was closed Monday afternoon after a truck spilled cooking oil in the road, police said.

The spill occurred at about 2:30 p.m., and police urged drivers to avoid the area at least until 5:30 p.m. Drivers were encouraged to use the Martin Luther King Freeway or the Rowan Street bridge as alternate routes.

Bragg Boulevard was closed between Hay Street and Walter Street so a hazardous materials team could clean the oil off the road, police said.

The truck driver, whose name wasn't released, was cited with failing to secure his load, police said.
