Consumer Reports ranks Publix as top local grocery store

Posted May 28, 2015

Publix produce dept.

In a new story from Monica Laliberte with WRAL's 5 on Your Side, you'll see the results of the recent Consumer Reports grocery store rankings. The top store in our area is Publix. See how the rest of our local stores fared!

The stores were voted on by over 62,000 Consumer Reports subscribers who rated multiple shopping trips over a period of 16 months during 2013 and 2014. Below are the rankings for our local stores as well as the top and bottom ranked stores. I am thrilled to see that we have 8 stores in the Triangle who are in the top 25.

I like food lion best....HT does double coupons but on a daily basis they are just too expensive for me. I went to a Public once and they have outrageous prices. I live in Smithfield, and I'm not wasting my gas just to try to save money at a different grocery store. Yes, you can find unique and different varieties from other stores, but Food Lion has good prices every day. They are also remodeling their stores too. I have 8 to 10 stores that is within a 10-15 mile radius of me, I don't need to go anywhere else.

re: my previous comment --- meaning Kroger should let HT "do their thing" and not change a bunch of stuff. ;-)

HT definitely - and I hope Kroger sees how much higher HT ranks than the Kroger stores!

    HT all the way!!!

Harris Teeter is #1 for me! I've been to a Publix once in Florida and wasn't that impressed. I also like Aldi's produce specials.

Don't know anything about Publix (except they don't double coupons), so can't dispute the #1 spot, buuutttt, how can Costco, Trader Joe's (which has never impressed me), and ALDI come before HT????? I don't see a 'close' comparison!

I do like ALDI, but they are 'very' limited, and I only go there for their produce specials. Have tried a few of their brands and won't buy them again.

Oh, well, guess I'm in the minority, evidently! Won't change my mind though! ;-)
