FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Construction to add a center median to Ramsey Street will likely cause traffic congestion over the next three months, Fayetteville officials said Wednesday.

Ramsey Street will be narrowed to one lane in each direction for the project between Andrews Road and Country Drive.

City traffic engineers urged motorists to be alert in the construction zone and to use alternate routes when possible. Traffic signals might be adjusted if needed.

"The center median will bring increased safety to Ramsey Street, and we thank citizens for their patience during the construction process," engineer Rusty Thompson said in a statement.

Sidewalks and landscaping will also be added during the $2.6 million project. Work is scheduled to be finished in mid December.
