Construction work begins on Fayetteville's Ramsey Street

Posted August 4, 2011

— Construction to add a center median to Ramsey Street will likely cause traffic congestion over the next three months, Fayetteville officials said Wednesday.

Ramsey Street will be narrowed to one lane in each direction for the project between Andrews Road and Country Drive.

City traffic engineers urged motorists to be alert in the construction zone and to use alternate routes when possible. Traffic signals might be adjusted if needed.

"The center median will bring increased safety to Ramsey Street, and we thank citizens for their patience during the construction process," engineer Rusty Thompson said in a statement.

Sidewalks and landscaping will also be added during the $2.6 million project. Work is scheduled to be finished in mid December.

bigal after a career trying to make the roads I was assigned to safe I can tell you these islands are NEEDED in that area to save lives and property. Sorry you can't be satisfied and need to complain about things you know nothing about. Small projects like that are not done because we like the look of orange barrels.

It wouldn't matter WHAT was done. No medians. folks crying about how it's a death trap. Put in medians, now it's all about inconvenience. No one will ever be satisfied, so just do what needs to be done to protect good drivers from the idi ots allowed to roam the roads.

I think these yankee style medians are only hurting things. I remember that they had these same idiotic medians back in 1974 when i first arrived in fayetteville. they did away with them because they really back up traffic during peak hours with people having to make u turns to get to where they want to go. Just one more way for some friend of a friend of a politician to make some money.

WRAL needs to look at a map...it is running from Andrews Road to Country CLUB Drive. Or better yet READ the article in the FayObserver.

Again I ask WRAL to furnish the name of the General Contractor for the project on Ramsey Street you all must know or would not have reported on it,well maybe you would have sent out this half baked potato.

@cantstandya most likely it will be Eye-Carumba Contractors. At least that's the way most road crews appear to be heading these days.

Who is the general contractor on this project?
