RALEIGH, N.C. — Target announced last year that a new "flexible format" store would open near North Carolina State University this year, but this week it was announced that construction would start in May.

The Raleigh store, at 2512 Hillsborough St., will open in October. The store will be roughly 23,000 square feet and will include grab-and-go groceries, meal solutions for students, a curated home assortment with apartment and dorm essentials, beauty, select men’s and women’s apparel and accessories, portable technology products, apparel and accessories from local sports teams and a CVS pharmacy.

The store will not be a 24-hour location.

Officials said they plan to begin hiring in August.

Another "flexible format" Target at the corner of Columbia and Franklin streets in Chapel Hill will open in July.

That store will be about 21,000 square feet. It will include dorm and apartment essentials, apparel and accessories from the area’s favorite sports teams, grab-and-go grocery items and meal solutions, and a health and beauty assortment.
