— A company that designs and builds apartments, student housing, hotels and senior living centers plans to open an operation in Alamance County that will create 205 jobs, officials said Monday.

Prescient, which officials said has a design platform that offers a faster and more cost-effective alternative to conventional building, will invest more than $18.8 million in the facility at North Carolina Commerce Park near Mebane.

"Developers, architects, engineers and general contractors in the multi-unit housing industry are seeing the benefits of our platform, and this facility will allow us to efficiently service our customers up and down the I-95 corridor from Maine to Miami by being closer to their markets," Satyen Patel, chairman and chief executive of Prescient, said in a statement. "The demand for our system across the Mid-Atlantic, the South and Southeastern U.S. continues to grow, and we are looking forward to a long and productive partnership."

The company plans to employ designers, project managers, installers and other skilled positions. The average annual compensation will be $46,544, plus benefits. Alamance County’s average wage is currently $36,346 per year.

Prescient has qualified for a Job Development Investment Grant that will rebate up to $1,964,700 in employee withholding taxes if the company meeting annual hiring and investment targets over 12 years.
