Stock up on kids' items at swap meet

The 2014 spring/summer consignment sale season is here! These are the sales that pop up twice a year in empty storefronts, churches and elsewhere.

This season's sales will focus on spring and summer clothes and gear. Expect to find lots of Easter outfits, bathing suits, play clothes and more. Most sales also sell all sorts of toys, nursery equipment, maternity clothes, books and other items.

As usual, the massive Kids Exchange at the N.C. State Fairgrounds kicks off the season. The sale opens to the public on Jan. 24 (volunteers and consignors get to shop earlier).

After that, most, but not all, of the sales are planned in March. I've updated our database, which includes 39 sales in the region. Not all of the sales have finalized their locations or schedules, so check back for updates.

There is still plenty of time to sign up to consign or volunteer at the sales. Consignors earn a percentage of the sales of their items. Both volunteers and consignors usually get to shop the sales before the public. So now is the time to start cleaning out those closets!
