Go Ask Mom

Conference scheduled for moms, their rising middle school daughters

Michelle Icard, a Charlotte mom of two and expert in the harrowing middle school years, has regularly hosted the conferences in the Charlotte area. She'd love to do the same in the Triangle.

Michelle Icard, a Charlotte mom of two and expert in the harrowing middle school years, has a new book out called "Middle School Makeover."

Coming from me, a mom of a tween who is a year away from middle school, it's a fascinating book that details the brains, lives and goings ons of middle schoolers.

Icard writes that these years might not be a breeze, but that they really don't have to be harrowing, especially if you follow her recommendations on how to communicate and relate to your middle schoolers. Anyway, it's a great book with a lot of good information. It made me less nervous about what's to come, which is saying a lot!

I am going to have much more from Icard and her book next Monday. She has developed a curriculum for middle school boys and girls, which has been used in schools around the country. She holds summer camps for middle schoolers in the Charlotte area. And she speaks to parent, teacher and community groups.

Icard also hosts a very popular conference for rising middle school girls and their moms twice a year. The conferences are held in Charlotte. The April date is sold out. Another is scheduled for August. Registration is open now for the August event.
Icard tells me that she'd love to host a similar conference here in the Triangle area or line up speaking engagements. So spread the word! If you know a place interested in hosting a conference or talk by Icard, you can contact Icard through her website.
