Concerts, cornhole, and Color Vibe run lead our weekend best bets

The summer concert season is sizzling with shows all weekend.

RALEIGH, N.C. — On Friday, the Zac Brown Band plays the Time Warner Cable Pavilion at Walnut Creek, while hip hop star 2 Chainz visits Greensboro. Boy band One Direction plays the PNC Arena in Raleigh on Saturday, while Heart hits the stage at Walnut Creek. Rounding out the weekend, hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar plays the Red Hat Amphitheater on Sunday night. Tickets are still available for these shows.
If you are in the mood for some Broadway, head to the Koka Booth Amphitheatre on Saturday night for the North Carolina Symphony’s Summerfest series. They will be tackling some of Broadway’s biggest blockbusters. They will perform songs from Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera , Music Man, The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof. Tickets start at $28.
Runners will be tackling a very colorful 5K on Saturday morning at MacNair’s Farm in Raleigh. The Color Vibe 5K Run starts at 9 a.m. Runners get blasted with colored paint from various stations throughout the run. You can still register for the run. It is $46 before Friday and then $50 the day of the run.

Play cornhole for a good cause on Saturday. Mahoney’s Pub in Cary is hosting a cornhole tournament on Saturday at noon. The double-elimination tournament will help raise money for Matt Ortiz, a young man in critical condition after suffering serious internal staph infections. The money will go to help pay his medical bills. There will be a cash prize of $500. Registration starts at 10 a.m.
Napper Tandy’s Irish Pub is hosting the Summer Rain Festival block party on Saturday from 1-6 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. VIP tickets, which include food are $15. The theme is 80s and 90s, so be ready to hear some classic R&B and hip hop songs. A portion of the proceeds go to Komen for the Cure of North Carolina.

At the movies this weekend: 
Brad Pitt’s zombie-apocalypse film, World War Z, hits theaters on Friday. Also out Friday, Pixar’s Monsters University, the prequel to Monsters, Inc.
