Competition seeks kids' 3D, moving sculptures

The Museum of Life and Science offers a great way to keep creative kids busy this winter break: A contest seeking moving sculptures.

As part of its Springs, Sprockets & Pulleys exhibit, featuring the artwork of Steve Gerberich, the Museum of Life and Science is hosting a #GetGerboized Contest, which runs through Feb. 12.

It sounds like a great way to keep kids busy during this winter break!

As part of the contest, young artists are encouraged to try three-dimensional art projects that, like Gerberich's exhibits, incorporate movement.

Here's how to enter: Build a "whatchamacallit" like Steve Gerberich, send the museum a picture of your creation using #GetGerboized via the museum's Facebook or Twitter pages. Entries may also be submitted by email to happeningnow@ncmls.org. For complete details and inspiration, click here.

Three winners will be chosen by Steve Gerberich, judged on creative use of materials and moveable fun and announced on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at noon. Winners and three of their guests will enjoy a one-of-a-kind workshop with Gerberich on Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.

Springs, Sprockets and Pulleys runs through Feb. 23 and is free with museum admission to the Durham museum.
