We're less than 12 hours away from our big event at the Midtown Raleigh Farmers' Market at North Hills!

We'll be there from 8 a.m. to noon in the commons area next to Ben & Jerry's and Starbucks. We've had some schedule changes today, so here's the new line-up.

  • the large, colorful foam blocks that kids love to play with and are a centerpiece of North Hills Kids, a weekday (except Thursday) program that runs in the spring and summer will be out all morning
  • cornhole and a fun and easy Labor Day craft
  • free child IDs courtesy of the New York Life Insurance Company. You'll get identification cards with your child's vital statistics, photo and finger prints.
  • a visit from the Chick-fil-A cow from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., along with a simple craft starting around 10 a.m.
  • a contest for $25 gift cards to Dickey's Barbecue Pit
  • a visit from Swoops, the Carolina RailHawks mascot from 11 a.m. to noon
  • a big tub of bubble solution and bubble wands from Learning Express at North Hills
  • cotton candy from the Oscar William Cotton Candy Company. The Apex-based business will be selling 16 ounce containers of their yummy cotton candy (in flavors such as cheesecake and tutti frutti) for $2 a piece.
  • and a concert from the great Sandbox band for kids and families from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.! Read my earlier post for the latest from this very fun local kids band comprised of local dads.
We also will be collecting diapers, wipes and children's books for The Diaper Train, which distributes them to low income families in Wake County. Please consider bringing a pack of diapers or wipes in any size ... even half empty packages lying around because your kids are too big for them.

And, of course, the market is a fun place to wander and find yummy and local produce, baked goods and more.

So we have plenty to keep you busy Saturday morning. I hope to see you there!

North Hills is at Six Forks Road and the Beltline in Raleigh.
