First lady gets CIAA fans moving
With the CIAA college basketball tournament as a back drop, first lady Michelle Obama showed off some moves of her own Friday in Charlotte.
Posted — UpdatedObama has been using her time in the spotlight to encourage children to be more active. At Time Warner Cable Arena, she got help from some elementary school students to put that message into action.
"We ran the whole court, grabbed a jump rope to half court and then grab the basketball and shot two shots," described Demitri Dixon.
Obama walked to midcourt and addressed the crowd about her national anti-obesity campaign. She touted basketball as a way to keep active.
We are a basketball family and my husband is a crazy fanatic about basketball," Obama told the crowd.
Demitri's classmate, De-Artin Fleming said she was so excited she almost burst into tears. Alyssa Scerty described the experience as "really cool."
"When I knew I was going to be in Charlotte and we heard the tournament was going on, we thought, 'We've got to be part of this in some way, shape or form," she said.
