Chance for storms decreases through evening

As the frontal boundary clears central North Carolina, the threat of severe weather should diminish, leaving only a slight chance for rain in Raleigh after 8 p.m., Fishel said.

"Once the front clears your area this evening, the humidity will drop, and you will notice the change," he said.

The rain and clouds will give way to sunny weather on Tuesday, but it will remain relatively cool.

"If you want a sure thing, Tuesday and Wednesday look good for a visit to the North Carolina State Fair," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.  

More dry and sunny weather will prevail Wednesday, then temperatures will creep up into the mid-70s Thursday, as clouds roll in. Thursday will be even warmer with highs in the upper 70s, and showers will be possible later in the day.

A second cold front will roll across the state Friday, bringing in another shot at showers and storms. It will knock down temperatures into the low 70s for next weekend and let the sun back in.
