FORT MACON, N.C. — The Coast Guard has rescued a crew member who collapsed on a fishing boat off the coast of North Carolina.

The Coast Guard said in a statement that the 30-year-old man was in a 23-foot vessel about a mile south of Cape Lookout on Thursday when he passed out.

Another fishing boat, the Swashbuckler, reported the emergency to the Coast Guard, which dispatched a rescue vessel from Fort Macon.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. Coast Guard officers said that his condition had stabilized, and he was expected to be OK.

Coast Guard Lt. Caleb Peacock says the rescue is an example of how well the maritime community works with emergency responders.
