Trevor Wilson of Great Britain activated an emergency beacon from his sailboat at about 6 a.m. The rescue took place at about 9 a.m., approximately 70 miles east of Kitty Hawk.

Wilson told rescuers he lost consciousness for a while and thought he had fallen and hit his head.

The Coast Guard deployed a rescue swimmer who took Wilson off his sailboat and took him by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

    "what about the boat ????"

It's the responsibility of the boat owner to have someone locate the boat and either bring it back or tow it in.

So glad that this event had a happy ending. Great technology and well trained rescuers. Crew Dog is absolutely correct with his/her comments. Our Coast Guard does not get the respect and attention that it deserves.
