CNN report: Trump wanted Romney to apologize publicly before offering secretary of state job
Posted December 15, 2016
Mitt Romney won’t be secretary of state, we learned this week.
But was it the lack of an apology that cost him the job?
CNN reported on Thursday that top aides within Donald Trump’s campaign wanted to see the former Massachusetts governor apologize for the harsh words he made against Trump during the 2016 presidential election.
Trump raised the idea after an ongoing back-and-forth between Trump’s campaign managers, like Kellyanne Conway, and Romney. Trump wanted a public apology from Romney, sources told CNN.
But the apology never came.
“Trump personally saw it in business deal terms: He would get the mea culpa he sought from Romney; Romney would get the job he covets. But Romney — who titled his own book ‘No Apology’ — declined,” according to CNN.
