Rain showers moving out; cold temps staying put
Below-normal temperatures stayed put on the final day of the weekend in central North Carolina, as daytime highs Sunday topped out around 40 degrees, at least 20 degrees below normal for late March.

Moderate to heavy rain made its way through the area Sunday morning, associated with a storm system that brought overnight thunderstorms to much of the Southeast and snow to the Midwest.
"We're probably going to stay a little too stable for lightning for most of North Carolina today, although we can't entirely rule out one or two thunder showers forming," WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
Rain was slowly moving out of the area at 5 p.m.
"We'll have more patchy areas of light to moderate rain and maybe even drizzle in between the rain showers," Moss said.
Overnight, there could be some rain, possibly some thunder in spots.
Monday's expected to be a little warmer with a high around 50. Sunday's rain will have moved off to the north, but Moss said there could be stray sprinkles or very light showers across areas from the Triangle to the northeast part of the state.
Looking ahead, spring won't be arriving anytime in the next several days. Temperatures gradually increase to the high 50s and low 60s by the weekend – still below normal for this time of year.
